Autoimmune Rheumatic Conditions

Autoimmune conditions cause high inflammation levels in the body which can result in joint pain, stiffness, fatigue, and many more symptoms. You may not be able to enjoy time with your family and friends. This can affect your home and work life. It can be very stressful not knowing the cause of your symptoms and possible complications you might develop. As untreated rheumatologic conditions, in some cases, can cause permanent joint and organ damage, it is extremely important that you receive timely care.
It is often challenging to make a diagnosis of autoimmune rheumatologic conditions. As these conditions can share symptoms with many other diseases, it requires thorough evaluation and assessment by an expert and experienced rheumatologist. Through various testing, it is possible to find the cause of your immune system’s hyper-activity.
Dr McKinnon is here to help you get better without dismissing your concerns. If you are diagnosed with a rheumatologic condition, she will promptly start an individualized treatment plan by combining necessary disease modifying medications with safe complementary and holistic therapies. Her goal is to restore your health so that you can get back to enjoying your life. If you are found to have some other cause of your symptoms, she will guide you to get to the right specialist.
We are not contracted with any insurance and, therefore, a referral is not needed. This means that you don’t have to wait for months to get the attention and care you need and deserve. Your get direct care and you pay us directly.
New patient consults are typically available within 2 weeks.
In-person and telemedicine visits are available.

What is integrative care model?

Integrative care is customized care which is proactive and individualized to each person’s needs. It empowers you to be in charge of your health. We dig deep into each patient’s past medical history and lifestyle habits which may be contributing to your immune system’s overstimulation and causing stressful and worrisome symptoms. These habits can include poor nutrition, lack of physical exercise, disruptive sleep habits, and other negative social/environment factors which can affect your physical and mental health.

Why was Direct Access Rheumatology founded?

Dr Naya McKinnon started her rheumatology practice in Las Vegas 12 years ago. During her practice, she realized that not only do patients have to wait several months to see a rheumatologist to discuss their concerning symptoms but it can also take many months before a diagnosis is established and treatment is initiated. At times, due to frustration and worry, some patients end up traveling long distances even out of state to get the attention they need and deserve.
Delay in diagnosis and therefore delay in treatment can cause organ and joint damage which is often irreversible. We know time is of the essence.
At Direct Access Rheumatology, you get faster and easier access to a board-certified expert rheumatologist for evaluation of your symptoms to get to the root cause and start a treatment plan as soon as possible.

Practice Philosophy and Goals

Good health is best achieved by means of a “whole-person” care through integration of lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, stress reduction, mindfulness, sleep optimization, movement and necessary medications, in partnership with our patients. Each treatment plan is individualized to each patient’s needs.
In traditional care model, there is little time to educate patients about their symptoms, conditions and how best to utilize medical treatments in addition to holistic approaches.

At Direct Access Rheumatology, you are a person, not just a number or disease.

What to expect at your first appointment?

We recommend that you provide any medical records which can help us understand your medical history. If for some reason this is not possible, we will review your medical history with you. If you have had any previous testing, it is advisable that you bring results from prior testing with you. This can avoid redundant testing and undue cost. We will thoroughly address your concerns and formulate a comprehensive plan to get to the root cause of your symptoms. Further testing which may be needed can include laboratory tests, imaging and possible referrals to appropriate providers.
